Results of the needs analysis carried out in France

A. Background Questions | B. Familiarity with host culture and language | C. Studying | D. Social life and leisure | E. Important Vocabulary, Questions and Comments

Self-evaluation of language proficiency upon arrival
More than half the students considered their language proficiency upon their arrival « satisfactory ». And almost 27% of them said they had none or it was (very) poor.

Their problems are mainly in comprehension of oral media and participation in conversation.
Since the answers suggested that the majority of students can understand classes in French, it was decided that the CD-Rom would emphasize informative content rather than language learning .

Familiarity with culture of the host country
The main difficulties reported concerned the people and their customs, the university system and the social system. These aspects are dealt with in the three Units and the Good to Know section.

The Good to Know section deals with non academic topics (outside the University). It provides a lot of information about everyday life. The topics are:
Transportation
Banking
Health
Rhythms (daily, weekly, yearly)
Housing
Leisure
Medias
Meeting people
