Background and Need
Student
mobility today is supported by numerous EU funded programmes
and bilateral contracts between educational institutions.
The success of a study course abroad strongly depends on
the language skills of the students and their knowledge
of the culture and social conventions of their host country
and host university. In order to offer exchange students
the opportunity to prepare themselves efficiently for their
stay abroad and to raise awareness for intercultural contacts,
EUROMOBIL, a Multimedia Language Learning and Information
Programme for nine European target languages has been designed with the support of the European
Commission (Socrates/ Lingua2).
The
EUROMOBIL Project
The EUROMOBIL project started in 1999 with the aim of producing interactive multimedia language learning and information
programmes to promote student mobility (CD-ROMs with links to the Web). In the first year, target languages were German, Finnish and Hungarian. In 2000, we found a British partner to join the project and English was added as a target language. A follow-up project, EUROMOBIL 2, was launched in 2005 to extend the existing programmes to five new European languages: Czech, French, Polish, Portuguese and Romanian. Both projects were supported by the European Commission
within the Socrates/Lingua 2 scheme. (cf. Table)

The programme can be adapted for further
languages.
The EUROMOBIL programmes have been planned on the basis of a needs
analysis survey and in close collaboration with students. Consequently, the programmes for different languages differ in levels, contents and target skills according to the specific needs of the exchange students in the target country (cf. Contents, Modules and Demo). The activities are based on authentic and semi-authentic video
recordings.

completion of the project. Please send your comments and
