Centre for Applied Language Studies of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland (Coordinator)

The centre is a research institute with the following main research emphases:

  • Language teaching/ language learning research
  • Evaluation of language skills
  • Language use in various different communication's situations
  • Language policy and language planning

The interactive character as well as the situation specific and cultural aspects of language are focal points of the investigations.

Along with the research carried out, the centre also teaches applied linguistics for research students and coordinates the LANGNET-Programme which cares for the needs of students all over Finland. Further nationwide activities include the publishing of scientific publications and teaching material as well as the organisation of further education seminars. In cooperation with the Finnish National Board of Education the centre also oversees the system of Finnish language certificates. The centre has numerous international contacts in the framework of EU-projects and bilateral co-operational contracts.

IIK e.V. Berlin, Germany

The Institute for Intercultural Communication e.V. is a registered company which supports and promotes the international scientific, cultural and economic cooperation between language teachers, language learners, economic experts, students, scientists and other interested people, whether European or not. The Institute has several language schools in Bayern, Berlin and Thüringen. Alongside foreign language teaching the employees of the institute also research further educational methods in the area of the new media.

The Language Institute of the Medical Faculty of the University of Pécs, Hungary.

The Institute offers specialised language study and general foreign language teaching in English, German, French, Latin and Hungarian. Along with the construction of teaching material, tests for the relevant foreign languages are also developed. Between 1999 and 2000 a new language examining system for English and German (called PROFEX-Fachsprachenprüfung) was developed at the Language Institute of the Medical Faculty of the University. It is directed at the needs of medical student's later professions e.g. (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, nutrition advisors etc.) The exam is carried out in all of the medical faculties in Hungary and the Institute coordinates the cooperation as a state accredited examining centre.

The Institute for Germanic Studies at the University of Bristol, UK

Alongside German teaching courses on English as a foreign language, courses on English literature and on communicative English skills training for exchange students in Bristol are also run. The Institute has many year's experience with exchange programmes within the Socrates/Erasmus framework and of bilateral contracts with universities in Germany (Mainz, Hannover, Heidelberg, Germersheim, Marburg). A main emphasis is also placed on the development of computer supported foreign language teaching.
